TRAINWRECK HITS THE ROAD IN MARCH IN SUPPORT OF “THE WRECKONING”

‘Wreck And Roll’ from Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass and Members of the D’s Backing Band Head Straight for America’s Heartland Beginning February 27

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA (FEBRUARY 17, 2010) – Trainwreck, fronted by Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass and “Lee of the D” announced today that they will go off the rails this month in support of their latest CD, The Wreckoning.

Trainwreck has been described by Gass as a “cornucopia of rock and a 5-headed hydra of pleasure”. Beginning on February 27, Trainwreck’s classic/prog/Southern boogie wreck and roll extravaganza will head out on tour beginning at Dipiazza’s in Long Beach. Mere days later, the band will cut a swath a mile wide from smoggy Southern California to Sin City and onto the southern United States. After that – they’ll head to the Midwest and back again to the Rocky Mountains. Confirmed tour dates are:

02/27 @ Dipiazza’s, Long Beach, CA
03/01 @ Beauty Bar, Las Vegas, NV
03/02 @ Green Room, Flagstaff, AZ
03/04 @ Launchpad, Albuquerque, NM
03/05 @ VZD, Oklahoma City, OK
03/06 @ The Village, Little Rock, AR
03/07 @ 3rd & Lindsley, Nashville, TN
03/09 @ Vinyl, Atlanta, GA
03/10 @ Workplay Theater, Birmingham, AL
03/12 @ Frankie’s, Toledo, OH
03/13 @ Martyr’s, Chicago, IL
03/14 @ The Basement, Columbus, IL
03/16 @ The Firebird, St. Louis, MO
03/17 @ The Riot Room, Kansas, MO
03/18 @ Larimer Lounge, Denver, CO

“The Wreckoning is nothing short of a Trainwreck, in the best possible way,” said John Barthomew Shredman of Trainwreck. “After seven years of playing music together, touring all over the world, and recording a number of live albums and EP's we finally decided it was time to release our full-length debut. We cannot wait to see all of you on the road in the coming month. So keep your ear-fannies wide and your butt-flaps wider because we're about to ram this train into places you didn't know it could go. Prepareth yourselves!”

The Wreckoning is Trainwreck’s latest 15-song release that features instant classics such as “Milk The Cobra”, “Bothered & Hot” and “El Mustachio”. All tracks highlight the bands par-tay credo. Case in point, the video for “Brodeo”, a tale of man-on-man ‘bonding’ could very well be the band's manthem. Lyrics touch on the finer points of beer pong, chips and dip and lots of energetic men taking their shirts off at a pool party sans chicks. It’s a visual Broverload to be sure.

Trainwreck’s absurdist comedy stage banter and lyrics are derived from characters they’ve developed within the band; essentially living caricatures of themselves. Never ones to shy away from big guitars (or occasional flute fugues and fantasy), Trainwreck have earned themselves fans all over the globe headlining venues in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. They have supported bands such as Reverend Horton Heat, Vida Blue (Page from Phish), Blues Traveler and have performed on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and Current TV.

ABOUT TRAINWRECK
Trainwreck is: Kyle Gass (aka Klip Calhoun) from Tenacious D, JR Reed (aka “Lee of the D” & biker hayseed Darryl Donald), John Konesky (aka John Bartholomew Shredman), John Spiker (aka Boy Johnny) and Nate Rothacker (aka Dallas St. Bernard). The band thrives on tours that have occasionally left melted faces, busted ear-fannies and the occasional bastard child in their wake. Their latest release is The Wreckoning.

•Jester Jay - CD review - Trainwreck, The Wreckoning (2010)

"Going off the rails on a crazy train"? I guess Ozzy was psychic about Trainwreck's upcoming album, The Wreckoning (releasing March 2). Trainwreck is Kyle Gass (KG from Tenacious D) along with several of the guys who backed the D. But they're not just Tenacious D minus Jack Black; they've got their own flavor going on, with some Southern fried rock and judicious use of flute. Still, they have the same twisted humor and hard rock licks and many of the vocals seem designed for JB's voice. And the love comes through, even while they're mocking a host of musical and cultural cliches. The band has fleshed out stage personas for each member, but I'm still not sure what's up with KG's toupee.

Often, when a band is built around a satirical concept, the jokes wear thin after a listen or two. But, like Spinal Tap or the D, Trainwreck has crafted tight, riff-heavy songs worthy of repetition. I was hooked from the moment I caught the video for Brodeo. This manthem is Trainwreck's Boys Just Want to Have Fun with a (barely) latent gay sub-text:
And when the BROdeo begins
We'll be hangin' with our friends
All of whom are men
And when the BROverload occurs,
We can all take off our shirts
And wrestle in the dirt.
It's goofy fun, but it rocks and the chorus hook is guaranteed to have a crowd singing along at the show.

Another funny one is Tim Blankenship:
I'm gonna roll up in my Z-28
Gonna start a fire with the love we create
I'm Tim Blankenship...
This rocker is reminiscent of the Rolling Stones' When the Whip Comes Down and could spawn a whole episode on Trailer Park Boys.

While both of those are over the top, songs like Rock Boulder Mountain (listen on their MySpace page) are more subtle. This one kicks off with a flute noodling to a mellow, Moody Blues vibe but then dives into Black Sabbath metal groove. The flute comes back over the metal, rocking it Jethro Tull style. It's easy to imagine Jack Black prancing to this, but Daryl Lee Donald (Jason Reed) does just fine.

Whiskey with a beer chaser should start you down the rails. Pick up The Wreckoning when it comes out and catch Trainwreck if they hit your part of the world.

•Trainwreckwithkg - The 'Wreck have Rawked - By Daniel Simmonds

Trainwreck - It began with a group of dudes all connected by one common goal - to rock. This was in 2003. Many years later, a CD came out - and rocked the ass of many. This was called 'The Wreckoning'. Never before has hillbilly charm and pure hardcore rock ever been combined in such a cacophony of awesomeness - although, admittedly, there are not many bands that have dared tried.

“One way done a one-way track” – this band leads you to a climax of radness never reached before in a band's history, bar maybe Tenacious D. This band stars a very famous Kyle Gass – best known for his role in the greatest band on earth ‘Tenacious D’, and a series of amazing musicians such as the incredible JR and the insatiable John Konesky – all playing important roles within the band.

The songs on the album are mixed in genre – and perhaps that’s for good reason. A mixture of tastes is important to succeed in the music industry. Songs like ‘Tim Blankenship’ and ‘Brodeo’ will have you rockin’ your ass off, whilst songs like ‘JB Shredman’ and ‘B.L.T.’ will tickle your funny bone. An excellent mix all round – and a great underline message from the band – that is the quite obvious gay vibe and the very obvious comedy in the use of the flute to pizzle your zizzle… if that makes any sense. As well as the brilliant comedy, there is a lot of good stuff to hear, and very original stuff at that. A brilliant harmony from backing vocalists can be heard throughout the album, and brilliant lead vocals from KG, JR – and the odd one from Nate Rothacker and John Spiker.

As for the music videos from the band – all I can say is that you will laugh ‘till you’ve passed out… and maybe some more after that. ‘Brodeo’ features the band rockin’ an audience of some Bros – and bringing them to a party that is a little… festive. The lack of chicks is definitely a disappointment – but it would defeat the object if there were any. And as for the video ‘Tim Blankenship’ – well, anyone will love this. Hilarious.

On a final high-note, I’ve never heard anything like The ‘Wreck before. It is absolutely unique, and is proof that Kyle Gass and his crew can never go wrong – be it Tenacious D or T’wreck, there is always something awesome to be heard. So, why not buy the album and have a listen of it yourself… NOW.

•Spinner -Kyle Gass' Trainwreck Set for US Tour - By Linda Laban

Kyle Gass of Tenacious D fame released his "other" band Trainwreck's first studio album, 'The Wreckoning,' in December 2009, but don't go thinking this is another comedy act. "We're the real deal. We'll kick your ass," Gass tells Spinner. Trainwreck's out to prove it with a US tour that launches in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 27. "I'm taking it to the road. I'd like to visit every city in the United States. We have 15 booked, so how many left are there? Maybe we'll just hit the bigger markets then," he deadpans.

Trainwreck, which Gass describes as "A classic rock situation. It's a bit southern rock, too," started in 2002, when the D took a break due to partner Jack Black's busy movie schedule. "We did a live record a few years ago but we didn't like it, so this is our big day-butt," Gass says of 'The Wreckoning.' "I think that was backwards, I'm going to say ass-backwards. We came up with new songs, so this is the one. This is what I want to be buried with. They should put it in a time capsule. This is the one that should change the way we listen to music."

As it's hard to fully realize a wig and costume-wearing alter ego on a record, the way to listen to Trainwreck is live for full visual impact. "And I'm so good looking, you really want to see me. Why is it? Genes? I don't know what it is."

As far as our handsome rock god's acting career goes, Gass says things have been quiet lately, which has opened the door for Trainwreck to stretch its wings. "I 'm pretty sure Hollywood has turned its back on me," he says. "I don't know what I've done wrong. I wasn't nice to the Mayor of Hollywood or something, but I am pitching a Trainwreck TV series. It's about a band on the road, but -- check it out -- we also solve crimes. It's like 'Scooby Doo' meets 'CSI' meets 'The Monkees.' Are you feeling it?"

•Pollstar - Trainwreck Of A Tour - By Sarah Marie Pittman

Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass is jumping back on the rails with his side project Trainwreck as the rock band continues touring the U.S. in celebration of its debut studio album, The Wreckoning.
Gass describes Trainwreck “as a cornucopia of rock and a 5-headed hydra of pleasure.” The band features Gass, performing as his alter-ego Klip Calhoun, Darryl Lee Donald (Jason Reed aka “Lee” of Tenacious D), and additional members of the D’s live/studio band – John Bartholomew Shredman (John Konesky), Boy Johnny (John Spiker) and Dallas St. Bernard (Nate Rothacker).
The band’s sound mixes southern rock with a good dose of “prog-rock, boogie, and straight-up classic rock and roll, as well as absurdist comedy banter and lyrics derived from the characters they’ve developed within the band.”
After taking a month off the road, the tour kicks off Feb. 27 at Di Piazza’s Lava Lounge in Long Beach, Calif., with dates booked through a March 18 gig at Larimer Lounge in Denver.
Additional tour stops include Beauty Bar in Las Vegas (March 1), Launchpad in Albuquerque, N.M. (March 4), 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville (March 7), Martyrs’ in Chicago (March 13) and The Riot Room in Kansas City, Mo. (March 17).
The Wreckoning was released in early December.
“The Wreckoning is nothing short of a Trainwreck, in the best possible way,” said Shredman. “After seven years of playing music together, touring all over the world, and recording a number of live albums and EP's we finally decided it was time to release our full-length debut. Nice press photo Mr. Gass [Album 1 - Photo 6 on 'photos section'], not that I expect anything less. I’m glad the Orleans album means so much to you. Sad to see that The “D” is defunct. I guess Jack Black’s acting career and that somewhat of a bomb movie killed it. Sorta. Dates below, if you need to know.
